An anticyclone moves in from the west today with southwesterly winds for most, expect morning cloud or showers to clear for most with a sunny afternoon in store. Eastern Bay Of Plenty may cop a few afternoon showers however.

Upper North Island

Morning showers clear then becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon, southwesterly breezes. About eastern Bay Of Plenty and Gisborne showers may become heavy later during the afternoon however then clearing at night.
HIGHS: 23-25, 28 in Gisborne

Lower North Island

Showers in the west clear this morning and becoming mostly sunny this afternoon. Clear to start about Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay with high cloud, sunny areas and some cloud from afternoon as winds tend southerly. Northern Hawkes Bay will get fairly cloudy in the afternoon and a few showers may develop any of which clear at night.
HIGHS: 19-21, 27-28 on the east coast.

Upper South Island

Morning showers clear mainly in the west, sunny areas increasing otherwise with south to southwest breezes tending northeast along the east coast later in the afternoon.
HIGHS: 18-20 on the West Coast, 22 in Nelson. 23-24 in Canterbury and Marlborough.

Lower South Island

Chance of an early shower then sunny areas increasing, southwesterly breezes ease dying out in the evening. Morning showers in Fiordland clear with sunny areas in the afternoon, west to southwest breezes.
HIGHS: 17-18, low 20’s inland.
