> From the WeatherWatch archives

A southwesterly airflow lies over the country today, a cold front in this flow moved of the South Island late last night and first thing this morning and continues over the North Island.

North Island

Partly cloudy in the west with a few showers and southwesterly winds, eastern Northland through to Bay Of Plenty is looking drier than in the west but a shower or two could still sneak over at times. Showers clear this evening but a few remain overnight north of Auckland in the west. Showers for Wellington and Wairarapa push northwards into Hawkes Bay and Gisborne around midday with southerlies, clearing from the south this evening. A few showers remain north of Napier overnight and the odd shower may sneak into Bay Of Plenty. Cold overnight for the Central Plateau down into the ranges of inland Wellington / Wairarapa with frosts possible.

South Island

Showers about the far south, becoming restricted to coastal Southland by evening. Further north showers clear from the south and a few sunny spells eventually sneak through. Nelson is mainly dry then a few showers develop there this afternoon. Showers clear Marlborough around midnight. Winds are cold from the southwest, gusty about coastal areas but easing later today. Cold overnight for inland areas with frosts.
