A broad low pressure system lies over New Zealand today, dry for many this morning then showers move in during the afternoon. The West Coast of the South Island minus Buller has a mainly dry day.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Dry in the morning, a chance of some sun then showers move in by midday, showers may be heavy with possible thunder then easing later in the evening / overnight. Northerly winds.
Highs: 15-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Showers about Taranaki spread elsewhere by midday, showers may be heavy for a time then easing overnight. Northerly winds.
Highs: 14-17

Eastern North Island
A mostly sunny morning. Isolated showers develop in the afternoon especially about the ranges of Hawkes Bay / Wairarapa, showers may become heavy with a risk of thunder then easing later in the evening. Winds from the north or northwest then tending more northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 17-21

Wellington
A mainly dry morning, some sun possible. Cloud builds in the afternoon with showers developing mainly further inland, showers could become heavy with a risk of thunder then easing at night. North to northeasterly winds.
High: 16

Marlborough & Nelson
Morning sun, isolated showers develop in the afternoon especially inland with the chance of a heavy fall / thunderstorm then clearing at night. Light winds tend east to northeast by midday.
Highs: 14-16

Canterbury
A mix of sun and cloud with light winds tending easterly in the afternoon. Isolated showers in the afternoon especially about inland Mid / North Canterbury, some may become heavy with a chance of thunder, especially the further north you go.
Highs: 13-15

West Coast
Mostly sunny, any morning cloud about South Westland clears. Late afternoon / evening showers develop about Buller especially inland where they may be heavy with thunderstorms then clearing at night. Light winds tend onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 16-18

Southland & Otago
Sunny spells, some rain or showers late afternoon / evening then drying up overnight. East to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-16
