A northwesterly airflow lies over most of New Zealand today, a front moves onto the lower South Island later this afternoon bringing in a cool change.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Any morning cloud breaks away then mostly sunny, some afternoon cloud for Northland. Expect west to southwesterly winds, a sea breeze develops about eastern Northland in the afternoon.
Highs: 20-22

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny, some cloud drifting through at times. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-22

Eastern North Island
Sunny, light winds tend east to northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 20-23

Wellington
Cloudy areas with breezy north to northwesterly winds.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny with some high cloud. North to northwesterly winds, breezy from afternoon about Marlborough.
Highs: 21-26

Canterbury
Morning low cloud or fog then mostly sunny with some high cloud, overnight rain as northwesterly winds (breezy inland) change southerly.
Highs: 23-26

West Coast
Rain about Fiordland with heavy falls at times, mostly cloudy further north with the odd shower. Overnight rain with heavy falls pushes northwards. Northerly winds.
Highs: 15-19

Southland & Otago
Morning spots of rain then dry for a time with some high cloud, showers develop late afternoon or evening as northwesterlies change southwest.
Highs: 20-23
