West of the Central North Island and Bay of Plenty, any morning showers clear then sunny breaks increase with cool southerly winds easing during the day. Frosty at night in inland areas. Showers for the east coast of the North Island and about Wellington clear at night, cold southwesterlies ease later. Snow flurries to 300m about Wellington and Wairarapa, down to 500m in the ranges behind Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.

Early wintry showers and snow flurries to low levels about Christchurch and the Kaikoura Coast clear in the morning, sunny breaks then increase with cold southwesterlies dying out in the evening. Sunny areas increase in Southland and all other eastern areas of the South Island from morning with cold west to southwesterly winds easing. Frosty at night. Sunny in Nelson and Blenheim with light winds, frosty morning and night.

Sunny on the West Coast of the South Island, some cloud about Fiordland later at night. Light westerlies.

Mid teen temperatures north of the Waikato and in the Bay Of Plenty today, 13 to 14 degrees elsewhere although high single figures temperatures in the Central North Island and about Wellington. 13 to 14 degrees about the top of the South Island, 11 to 12 degrees elsewhere although only high single figure temperatures about Central Otago.
