A front clears off to the northeast of the North Island early this morning, expect a cold southwesterly airflow for the rest of the day.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Showers, some may be heavy with thunderstorms (especially in the afternoon) then easing later in the evening. Brisk west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Showers, some may be heavy (especially afternoon with a chance of thunderstorms) then easing later in the evening. Snow lowers to 800m for mountains etc. Breezy westerly winds tend southwest by evening.
Highs: 9-14

Eastern North Island
Morning rain eases to a few showers which continue off and on for the rest of the day, west to northwesterly winds tend southwest by evening.
Highs: 15-17

Wellington
Mostly sunny, some high cloud possible especially morning. Southerly winds develop in the morning.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny, there may be some high cloud about. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-14

Canterbury
Chance of a morning coastal shower then expect sunny spells, in the afternoon an isolated shower or two may spring up about inland areas. Cool southwesterly winds.
Highs: 8-12

West Coast
Any early rain clears then expect increasing sunny spells with southwesterly winds. Buller sees morning rain ease to showers which continue for the rest of the day.
Highs: 8-11

Southland & Otago
Morning rain eases to showers for Southland, fresh southwestely winds ease in the evening. Otago is dry at first then mid to late morning a few showers move in as westerlies tend cooler southwest (strong about the coast), showers clear in the evening. Some snow possible to 400m, perhaps even 300m for Southland.
Highs: 7-9
