A cold front moves northwards over the South Island today while a slim ridge of high pressure holds on further north.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny spells, may be a few afternoon / evening isolated showers. Northland sees the odd shower in the east in the morning. Light easterly winds.
Highs: 23-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A mix of sun and cloud, isolated showers develop in the afternoon especially inland. A few showers may become heavy with the risk of a thunderstorm then clearing later in the evening. Light winds tend northwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 20-23

Eastern North Island
Sunny spells, a few isolated showers may develop about inland hills and ranges late afternoon / evening. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 20-22

Wellington
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, rain develops overnight as breezy northerlies change southerly.
High: 19

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny about Marlborough, overnight rain develops. Nelson sees sunny areas and increasing cloud, rain moves in overnight also. North to northwesterly winds change southerly overnight.
Highs: 21-24

Canterbury
Morning sun then southwesterly winds freshen from afternoon bringing rain.
Highs: 18-24

West Coast
Heavy rain about South Westland moves into North Westland during the afternoon, easing in behind as northerly winds change southwest.
Highs: 16-19

Southland & Otago
Rain, chance of the odd heavy fall then easing overnight. Cool south to southwesterly winds, becoming gusty about coastal areas from afternoon.
Highs: 13-16
