Upper North Island
Any morning cloud breaks to sunny areas and some high cloud, although some mid level cloud may hound the Waikato at times during the day. West to northwesterly winds. Afternoon highs in the mid to high twenties, perhaps even early thirties for parts of inland Bay Of Plenty and inland Northland.
Lower North Island
Cloudy areas in the west with the odd shower or drizzle patch possible, northwesterly winds. Mostly cloudy for Wellington with the chance of a shower, more likely from afternoon as northwesterly winds change southerly. Cloudy areas for the Wairarapa with the risk of a shower or two. Hawkes Bay and Gisborne see sunny areas and some high cloud, showers develop in the afternoon inland about the ranges bringing the chance of a heavy fall / thunderstorm then clearing later on. Temperatures in the low to mid twenties for most however just inland for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne may see early thirty degree highs.
Upper South Island
Mostly cloudy with rain or showers, dry this morning for Nelson and Marlborough however then showers move in this afternoon. Rain becoming heavy at times about the main divide between North Westland and Mid / North Canterbury. Winds from the south along the east coast and northwest for North Westland and Nelson. Temperatures in the mid to high teens along the east coast, low to mid twenties in the west and about Nelson.
Lower South Island
Mostly cloudy skies however parts of Fiordland and Southland may see sun at times breaking through high cloud. Chance of a shower at times about parts of North Otago. South Westland is generally dry although there may be a shower or two as you move northwards towards the Glaciers. The mountains of Fiordland could see an isolated shower this afternoon then clearing in the evening. Southeaterlies tend more easterly this afternoon. Temperatures reaching into the high teens about coastal Otago, low to mid twenties for Central Otago, Southland and Fiordland.
