A front moves northwards over the South Island today bringing in a change from northwesterlies to southwesterlies. A westerly airflow lies over the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy with the chance of a shower or two otherwise mainly dry, showers more likely overnight about the Waikato. The Bay Of Plenty sees a mix of sun and cloud during the day. Westerly winds.
Highs: 17-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas with the odd shower possible, more so from afternoon then a greater risk later in the evening. Breezy west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-16

Eastern North Island
A mainly sunny day with west to northwesterly winds (chance of a coastal sea breeze about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne), overnight a southerly change pushes into the Wairarapa bringing showers.
Highs: 19-22

Wellington
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, late evening showers. Northwesterly winds freshen then change southerly overnight.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, northwesterly winds picking up. Later in the evening or overnight winds change southerly with the risk of a shower although probably staying mainly dry. The northwest Nelson and Tasman areas will likely see a few showers late afternoon / evening.
Highs: 19-22

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, during the afternoon a southerly change moves northwards bringing rain, pushing into areas north of Banks Peninsula later this evening. Rain clearing overnight for South Canterbury.
Highs: 15-19

West Coast
Cloudy, rain about South Westland moves into North Westland by midday then clearing later in the evening. Northwesterlies changing southwest later in the day.
Highs: 13-15

Southland & Otago
Morning rain eases to showers, clearing around midday for Southland but not about Otago till later in the evening or overnight. Cool southwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-14
