A ridge lies over the North Island on Wednesday while northwesterlies strengthen over the South Island, a front pushes onto the lower South Island in the evening then moves northwards overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly sunny with north to northeasterly breezes, cloud builds a little after midday for some. There may be an isolated shower late afternoon / evening about Northland and perhaps the Waikato otherwise mainly dry.
Highs: 22-25

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly sunny with light winds, tending west to northwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 20-23

Eastern North Island

Sunny with north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 26-29

Wellington

Sunny with brisk to strong northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-18

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny with north to northwesterly winds, gusty at times from midday. High cloud develops overnight.
Highs: 20-24

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with some evening high cloud, north to northwesterly winds becoming a little gusty from afternoon.
Highs: 26-27

West Coast

A few light showers about South Westland turn to rain in the afternoon which push northwards in the evening. Heavy rain overnight. Northerly winds strengthen.
Highs: 17-20

Southland & Otago

Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, some evening rain about Southland spreads northwards overnight. North to northeasterly winds becoming breezy from midday.
Highs: 21-22
