It’s going to be a sodden day for South Islanders.
But us North Islanders shouldn’t get too comfortable. Our turn is coming tomorrow.
For today, expect rain for the entire South Island. It might take until mid-morning for Nelson and Marlborough to get in on it, but it will eventually work into the these regions as well. A threat for heavy rain will work its way up the West Coast during the morning and afternoon. Highs will range from the mid teens to around 20.
For the North Island, most areas will be dry except for Wellington, Wanganui and Manawatu. These areas could see rain move in during the evening. Although the Windy City may actually see some showers during the afternoon. Auckland may also see a passing shower or two.
The rest of the island will remain dry. Highs will range from lower to middle 20’s. However, Gisborne and Napier could actually push into the upper 20’s to right around 30.

Nice morning here in Christchurch, mild with some blue sky, mainly overcast though and no rain looks to be on the way judging by the radar from the southerly. Looks very weak this change now?

Yep it’s weakened much faster than the forecasters and the models predicted – keeping in theme with this chaotic summer weather pattern. Seems that the bulk of the rain fell on the West Coast – we’re scaling back rain predictions for the North Island tomorrow as a result of the high lingering longer and the front weakening further
Same reply for you too Peter (below)

Still no real rain to speak of here in Dunedin. We have had a few drops – not enough to wet the path. What happened to the forecast rain?
