Wednesday’s headlines (x3): Showers in the east, Strong southwest winds, Cold in the east

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….

SHOWERS PERSIST IN THE EAST

Showers persist today for the eastern regions, the eastern South Island has showers mostly clear overnight.

Showers also push into the southwestern corner of the North Island but will thin out a fair amount this evening.

Finally the upper North Island has a few early morning showers but they will quickly clear.

Expect some snow for Canterbury and southern Marlborough to 600m. Ranges of the lower North Island sees flurries to around 800m.

STRONG SOUTHWEST WINDS

Banks Peninsula northwards along the eastern side of the country has strong south to southwesterly winds, winds become particularly strong this evening for the lower and eastern North Island about coastal parts as a low to the east deepens.

COLD IN THE EAST

Temperatures for eastern regions today are naturally quite cold, while we warm up a touch on Thursday it’s not really till Friday that we start to feel a bit warmer.

All the meanwhile western regions and the upper North Island are warmer overall.

Also watch for frosty conditions about inland parts of the South Island this morning south of the Mackenzie Country, frosts possible again on Thursday morning but also about inland parts of the upper South Island and the Central North Island.
