A low brushes the upper North Island overnight and with it comes some rain which could be heavy in areas. Westerlies ease over the South Island and a ridge develops bringing some gradually calmer weather. The far south could still see the odd shower however.

Northland
Rain, possibly heavy overnight. Heaviest rain more so about southern areas of the region. Winds brisk from the north or northeast. Winds change southerly around dawn.
Lows tonight: 11-12

Auckland
Rain, heavy at times overnighty especially about the Coromandel. Brisk east to northeast winds change more southerly towards dawn.
Low tonight: 11

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Rain tonight (which could be heavy about western Bay Of Plenty and northern Waikato). Breezy east to northeast winds change more southerly around dawn.
Lows tonight: 7-11

Eastern North Island
Thick high cloud about Wairarapa, generally cloudy skies further north. Expect a few showers about Gisborne and then Hawkes Bay a little later this evening. Some rain overnight for Gisborne. Expect north to northwest winds, easing towards dawn.
Lows tonight: 7-9

Western North Island
Cloudy with showers, especially about northern Taranaki. Showers clear towards dawn tomorrow as northerlies change southerly.
Low tonight: 8-9

Wellington
Chance of some rain this evening then clearing around midnight and clear spells increase. Gusty northerlies ease overnight tending southerly for a time.
Low tonight: 9-10

Marlborough & Nelson
Areas of cloud clear overnight, west to northwest winds ease.
Low tonight: 4-5

Canterbury
Cloudy areas this evening could deliver a shower, mainly south of about Christchurch. Skies clearing up overnight with southerlies dying out.
Lows tonight: 0-1

West Coast
Rain, possibly heavy and thundery at first then easing and clearing by midnight. Northwesterlies change lighter southwest this evening. Clear skies develop overnight. About Fiordland showers continue however.
Low tonight: 3-5

Coastal Otago
Mainly clear skies with westerly breezes.
Low tonight: 4

Central Otago
Clear spells increasing from this evening, westerly winds ease. Becoming a bit chilly overnight, especially in sheltered areas.
Lows tonight: 0-1

Southland
Cloudy spells with the odd shower, west to northwest breezes.
Low tonight: 4-5
