A ridge moves over the South Island tonight finally bringing an end to the wet and windy weather the east of the South Island has been experiencing. The East Coast of the North Island still has a period of rain / showers and strong winds to go through but these will ease tomorrow morning.
Auckland & Northland
Clear with a few clouds about, southwesterlies ease overnight. Any remaining showers about Northland clear this evening.

Clear spells and some cloud, showers south of Lake Taupo ease overnight and clear towards dawn tomorrow. Brisk southwesterlies ease later.

Rain about the Wairarapa spreading into Hawkes Bay and Gisborne this
evening, brisk to strong southwesterly winds.

southerly after midnight. Chance of a brief shower this evening about northern
Taranaki then clearing, brisk southerly winds.
