A low pressure system moves over the upper South Island overnight bringing rain to many western areas and for a time about Mid Canterbury northwards in the east. The Bay Of Plenty, Auckland and Northland may remain mostly dry however, there is just the chance of a shower about Auckland this evening.

Auckland & Northland
Cloudy areas with the chance of a shower about Auckland this evening, west to northwesterly winds.

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Mostly cloudy with westerlies tending northwest this evening, the odd shower moves into the Waikato this evening for a time. The Central North Island sees the odd shower from this evening also however they will continue through the night.
Tonight’s Low: 10-13

Eastern North Island
Mainly clear skies with some high cloud increasing from later this evening, northeasterly winds. Overnight some brief rain spreads from the west as winds tend more northwest. Rain may be a bit more frequent about the Wairarapa with stronger northwesterlies developing there.
Tonight’s Lows: 10-12

Western North Island
Fairly cloudy with the odd shower about northern Taranaki turning to rain this evening, breezy northerlies. Rain spreads further south later this evening or overnight with west to northwest winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-13

Wellington
Cloudy with the odd shower developing this evening then turning to rain overnight. Strong northerlies may gust to gale by dawn tomorrow morning.

Nelson
Cloudy, the odd shower turning to rain this evening, rain may be heavy overnight then easing around dawn tomorrow. Northeasterly winds.

Marlborough
Fairly cloudy with rain developing this evening, gusty northerlies. Rain eases overnight as winds tend a little more northwest.
Tonight’s Low: 12

Canterbury
High cloud with easterly breezes near the coast easing overnight, some rain spreads from the west this evening then clears overnight. Rain mainly about North and perhaps Mid Canterbury. South Canterbury remaining fairly dry.

West Coast
Heavy rain moving in this evening then easing overnight, northeasterly winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 10-11

Coastal Otago
Generally clear skies although some high cloud is possible, especially overnight. East to northeast breezes ease later this evening.

Central Otago
Mainly clear skies with southwesterly winds easing overnight, there may be some high cloud for a time.
Tonight’s Lows: 5-6

Southland
Some cloud with west to northwest winds, a few showers evening onwards with a westerly change. Showers clear overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 7-8
