WeatherWatch.co.nz ratings continue to rise

> From the WeatherWatch archives

WeatherWatch.co.nz has had another successful year in web ratings – and if you run a business that relies on the weather, you may want to read this.

Over 2011, according to Google Analytics, WeatherWatch.co.nz received nearly 2 millions visits and over 4.5 million pageviews – this despite a fairly quiet year weatherwise which saw most major weather events occurring in less populated regions.

Around half of the visits, or 1 million, came from Auckland – while our independent Auckland forecasts have skyrocketed in popularity, with most siting accuracy and details as their main reason for returning.

Unique visits to the site were 650,000 for the year – or around 55,000 people per month across 2011.

However the historic cold blast in August saw nearly double those numbers, as did the Queensland floods in January 2011.

International media giant CNN used our news service and your photos a number of times in 2011, covering a variety of stories from the Antarctic snow storm, to South Island earthquake activity, tsunamis and the Chilean ash cloud.

WeatherWatch.co.nz had a high profile year in New Zealand too with growing support from much of the mainstream media and clients Fonterra and Auckland Civil Defence due to our news service and other client specific services.

Our successful campaign to free up the MetService radar network also showed WeatherWatch.co.nz’s support for everyday New Zealanders.
