A touch of winter will arrive for most places over the next 48 hours as a couple of south to south west changes move in.
The air will be coldest for the south and east of both islands but regions from Southland to Northland will all take temperature cuts over Thursday and Friday.
By the weekend a high will push in calming things down for most places by Sunday.
