Exclusive cyclone coverage — Breaking news out of the tropical South Pacific today as two cyclones move slowly eastwards. To our north is Tropical Cyclone Jasmine – the storm has been upgraded now to a severe Category 4 cyclone (Phil mentions it’s around Cat 2 or 3 as generally speaking that’s where it will be over the next few days).
Jasmine will start to turn towards New Zealand over the next couple of days but will be pushed back away from us as a new high rolls in from Tasmania over the weekend.
Meanwhile Cyclone Cyril will pass to the south of Rarotonga in the next few days and shouldn’t affect any main islands at this stage.
Over New Zealand and we have a large high about to move in – but before it arrives the south to east winds on the right hand side of it will push over the southern and eastern coastlines of both islands. Temperatures will drop several degrees this weekend in places like Dunedin but the warmth will return when the high moves over us early next week.
