Philip Duncan and nzherald.co.nz team up to bring you the latest on the cold snap and talk about the incoming high which promises warmer, drier and sunnier weather for many parts of New Zealand this week.
But like most high pressure systems this summer it will be short lived. The next front arrives in Southland later on Thursday and crosses the country in a more weakened state on Friday, followed by more of those brisk west to south west winds.
By the weekend conditions improve again thanks to another high – but Auckland Anniversary weekend may start off with sou’westers and a few showers here and there on the Saturday – it’s one to watch but as of today there was nothing too serious weatherwise this coming weekend.
