1953, Chetumal, Mexico: The strongest wind gust ever recorded during a hurricane: 281 km/h.

1959 Typhoon Vera hit Honshu on the 26th and 27th killing more than 5,000, injuring more than 40,000 injured and leaving 1.5 million homeless as 40,000 homes are destroyed. Vera is Japan’s greatest typhoon disaster.

1969 Balclutha, South Otago enjoys a very warm week with temperatrures in the 20s, after a soggy and cold beginning to the month.
