> From the WeatherWatch archives

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.

HIGH STARTS TO NUDGE IN

A high in the Tasman Sea starts to nudge in over the South Island today, showers for the upper South Island (snow flurries to 400m) mostly clear this morning however a few linger for Tasman for the rest of today. Showers about Banks Peninsula clear this afternoon.

The lower North Island has showers, moving into Hawkes Bay this morning then Gisborne this afternoon with southerlies. Rain this morning about Northland eases to a few showers, showers for western regions clear later this afternoon or evening. There should be some snow about higher parts of the Desert and Napier / Taupo road, more on that here.

WARMEST TEMPERATURES UPPER NORTH ISLAND TODAY

No overly warm weather around New Zealand today but the upper North Island does reach into the mid teens, this despite the risk of a shower or two. The West Coast is sunnier with lighter winds but highs may not get above about 13 this afternoon.

LOW ON FRIDAY IS NO MORE

Looks like the low forming to the northeast of the North Island on Friday is too far away to the northeast, so no heavy rain now for East Cape and Coromandel.
