Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.
HEAVY RAIN TODAY
A front that brought heavy rain to Northland and Auckland yesterday continues to bring rain all day long for Bay Of Plenty and the top of the South Island today.
Metservice has a few watches and warnings out on today’s rain which you can see here.
VERY HUMID – WHEN DOES IT EASE?
Conditions around the country are feeling very humid at the moment, the upper North Island especially may be feeling quite tropical in that regard.
The South Island sees this humidity or muggy feeling shall we say ease on Monday next week as a southwest change kicks in, the North Island’s humidity starts to drop on Tuesday 7th February.
The maps below show the dew point temperature, the dew point temperature is a measure of humidity. About 10 degrees is an average dew point, 11 to 15 degrees is starting to become more humid, 16 to 20 is getting quite humid. In fact a dew point of 20 degrees can be a similar humidity as to what the tropics can experience.
MORE INSTABILITY THIS AFTERNOON
Afternoon warm temperatures and high humidity could lead to a few unstable showers this afternoon, one or two may become heavy with thunder.
The lower South Island about inland hills and ranges is a good candidate for this, also some parts of the upper North Island. More details in Metservices thunderstorm outlook here.
