FRONT MOVES IN – HEAVY RAIN
A front moves into Northland this morning bringing some very heavy rain, the front moves slowly southwards then reaches Auckland later this afternoon or evening. There are some signs that the front may weaken a little as it moves over Auckland so fingers crossed any deluges are not of the intensity that we had last Friday, still it is something to be very wary of.
Northland looks to be very much in the firing line.
Later this evening and overnight rain moves into Waikato and Bay Of Plenty with heavy falls.
Keep up to date with any rain warnings from Metservice here.
THUNDERSTORMS – SOUTH ISLAND AND FAR NORTH
Instability develops this afternoon about the Main Divide of the South Island, so isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms are possible then easing later on.
Also behind the front mentioned in the first article above, some instability forms so thunderstorms may affect Northland then perhaps a rumble or two for Auckland overnight.
More on today’s risk from Metservice here.
Yesterday afternoon heavy downpours and thunderstorms developed about inland parts of the upper South Island. I went and chased a few storms there around the Amuri Basin area, saw some very spectacular lightning strikes and heard plenty of thunder. Unfortunately no lightning shots on camera this time around.
The rain that fell from this storm would of been welcome considering it is a bit dry at the moment – Aaron Wilkinson
HOT TEMPERATURES COMING – EASTERN SOUTH ISLAND
Not that it hasn’t felt warm lately but from Thursday or definitely Friday temperatures about the eastern South Island become quite hot during the afternoons, highs into the early or perhaps even mid thirties look possible, an outside chance of highs into the late thirties may occur.
Monday provides relief as a southerly change kicks in and fingers crossed some much needed rain.
