Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.

FROSTY THIS MORNING

Frosty conditions to start this morning especially for the South Island, while the map below shows a green colour for coastal Canterbury (temperatures between 0 and 5 degrees) lows of -1 or -2 may have developed.


ISOLATED SHOWERS THIS AFTERNOON – NORTH ISLAND

Some very cold upper air exists over the North Island today, temperatures around -30 degrees celsius 5450m high up in the atmosphere. This leads to some instability over the North Island this afternoon, isolated showers develop mainly about inland about hills and ranges south of the Waikato then clear this evening. One or two may be heavy with a low chance of thunder.


WARMEST TEMPERATURES TODAY

High’s get into the mid teens for coastal Otago in the east up through to Marlborough, also Nelson. High’s in the mid teens for the eastern North Island and about the upper North Island. A fairly nice day all around.
