Here’s what is making the weather headlines this weekend.
WEATHER ON SUNDAY
A front moves over the North Island moving from west to east meanwhile a north to northwesterly airflow lies over the South Island.
Expect rain for the western and upper North Island with heavy falls, more so in the west during the morning then progressing eastwards into the likes of Bay Of Plenty from afternoon. The east coast (Hawkes Bay etc) has mostly cloudy skies and a few spits of rain may spread from the west at times. Wellington sees rain clear in the afternoon and becoming dry, rain clears from most other western parts of the North Island during the evening then Bay Of Plenty overnight however rain may still cling to East Cape through the night and into Monday. Winds from the north.
Cloudy for the West Coast with rain or showers, rain heavy about South Westland for a time. Buller fairly dry till evening then a few showers move in. Nelson and Marlborough has sun and some high cloud. Canterbury has a mainly sunny and warm day with northerlies. Southland and Otago has sun this morning, some afternoon cloud brings a few spits or showers, clearing in the evening.
Looking towards Monday some cold upper air arrives over New Zealand from the Tasman Sea, this brings the chance of unstable conditions in the afternoon for both Islands so thunderstorms and isolated downpours are possible. Something to keep an eye on.
