Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.
MAINLY SETTLED TODAY, SHOWERS EASTERN NORTH ISLAND
A high pressure system brings a mainly settled day across New Zealand today, but mainly settled doesn’t always mean sunny. The eastern North Island is cloudy with showers, a few showers brush Coromandel through to Northland with southeasterlies then finally the West Coast sees the odd shower too.
The eastern South Island gets the good weather today after any early coastal cloud clears, also watch for a chance of fog this morning (mainly about the far south) then clearing away. And finally there may be a frost this morning about inland areas.
PRECIPITATION COMING UP NEXT 7 DAYS
The next seven days sees westerly quarter airflows over New Zealand, this starts to come into effect about mid this week. Therefore mostly we see average to wetter than average weather in the west (blue shading) and drier conditions in the east (red colouring).
NEXT LOW?
A few fronts push in from the west or southwest over the next 7 days, nothing particularly strong looking. Around the 5th September a low may move out of the Tasman Sea coming in from the northwest, this brings the potential for some heavy rain and strong winds for the upper North Island.
