Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.

MORNING FOG – SOUTH ISLAND

Fog is possible this morning for Canterbury and some inland valley west of the Main Divide, but fear not this will clear before midday.

UNSTABLE FOR THE NORTH ISLAND

Showers from late morning and into this afternoon may be heavy in spots with the risk of some thunder Waikato down through to Manawatu before easing this evening.

Then around midnight Auckland and perhaps western Northland could see further heavy isolated downpours with a chance of thunderstorms and hail as a cold pool of air high up in the atmosphere moves over.

NORTHERLIES DEVELOP ON TUESDAY – SOUTH ISLAND

A northerly airflow develops for the South Island on Tuesday leading to a nice day in the east, there will be some developing high cloud though. The West Coast is a bit cloudy with showers for Fiordland from afternoon, turning to rain in the evening.

The North Island sees morning showers clear then sunny spells increase for most regions.
