Weather headlines (x3) for Friday: Front in the east, Temperatures today, Heavy rain coming up

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.

FRONT BRUSHES PAST IN THE EAST

Not much action weather today, a front brushes past the eastern side of the country bringing cloud and a few light showers. Cloud starts to break about Southland and Otago from this afternoon and then perhaps Canterbury this evening.



TEMPERATURES

A little frosty this morning for inland parts of both Islands, cloud in the east keeps afternoon temperatures a little cool meanwhile parts of the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty may reach between 16 to 18 degrees.

SOME HEAVY RAIN IN THE WEST MON – TUE

Monday and Tuesday we see a northerly quarter airflow over the country, this leads to rain for western regions and there may be a few heavy falls.

Southwesterlies start to push over the South Island on Wednesday, there is some cold upper air also so Nelson / Marlborough and much of the western North Island may see heavy isolated falls and thunderstorms. Temperatures at around 5000m high up in the atmosphere are -24 to -25 degrees celsius.
