Weather chat – in Maori

> From the WeatherWatch archives

To celebrate Maori Language Week the Herald is publishing fun phrases each day.  They started with the weather…

1. Heck it’s raining again and I’ve left the washing out.
Aue kei te ua ano, kua mahue nga kakahu i te raina.

2. How hopeless was the forecast? I wish I was in Tahiti/Rarotonga/Hawaii
Tino he ke nga matapae huarere, ne ra? Kawea au ki Tahiti/Rarotonga/Hawaii! (For the warmer weather) (Mo nga ra o te raumati)

3. Love this weather.
Ka rawe nga rangi paruhiruhi nei.

4. Look how red/brown/black I’ve got.
Kua pakaka/parauri/pango/ katoa taku kiri.

5. It’s stinking hot, I’m going for a swim.
Te wera hoki, kei te haere au ki te kaukau.

6. This easterly/westerly/northerly/southerly drives me nuts.
Te kino marika o te hau marangai/tauru/hauraki/hautonga nei.
