It’s a warmer morning for many this morning thanks to a unsettled weather pattern spreading across the nation.
Auckland and Northland have woken to mainly clear skies although the current rain radar shows a band of showers moving in later this morning. Those showers are now moving in to Taranaki where they’re already quite heavy. As of 7am it was already 12 degrees in New Pylmouth with 11 in Auckland.
Calm, clear, conditions over Waikato and Hawkes Bay meant the temperature dropped further. It was just 2 degrees last hour in Hastings with 5 in Hamilton,
Western areas right down to Wellington are all in double digits this morning.
But it’s even warmer in the South Island with Kaikoura on a balmy 14 degrees at 7am and while Christchurch was quite a bit below that on 6 it’s still relatively warm compared to other sunrises.
Timaru’s on a mild 7 degrees thanks to the westerly flow.

You refer to heavy showers in Taranaki. I live in New Plymouth, I have been up since 5am and there have been no heavy showers at all. Mostly it has been sunny, with the odd dark looking cloud.
