Winter is not fading quietly – it’s being kicked out the door by an aggressive early start to spring as temperatures soar across New Zealand and more weather warnings are issued.
As of 1:30pm it was 20 degrees in Whangarei, Napier and Hastings, 19 in Gisborne and Timaru and 18 degrees in Auckland, Kaikohe, Whitianga, Tauranga, Blenheim, Kaikoura, Christchurch and Oamaru.
There have been reports of temperatures reaching over 22 degrees in inland Canterbury.
Numerous centres across the country are also in the 16 and 17 degrees range as the warm westerly flow continues.
But severe weather is on the way – Sunday will see conditions rapidly changing and MetService has high confidence of this with weather warnings being issued well in advance for Sunday and Monday.
15 weather warnings, including several severe wind warnings predicting gusts up to 140km/h along the nation’s east coast, have been issued.
