Warm in the north, cool in the south

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Warm nor’westers are helping boost temperatures in the upper North Island this afternoon.  Parts of Northland, including Whangarei, are already at 19 degrees with 17 around parts of Auckland.

It’s 16 degrees in Paeroa but temperatures drop quite quickly south of Waikato.

As of 1:30pm Taupo had 10 and Wellington, Napier and Hastings shared 11.

In the South Island it’s even colder with Christchurch, Timaru and Oamaru on just 7 degrees, Gore on 5 and Lumsden in Southland on 4 degrees.

Temperatures over the next week look to be settling into a more normal range for this time of the year as a westerly flow builds over the country.
