Winston is still a storm north of New Zealand, but it’s not longer a tropical cyclone. This video, which was recorded only minutes before it was announced that Winston had been downgraded, talks about the ex-cyclone’s track into the Tasman Sea – and how even though it’s not directly hitting us, the airflow behind it will likely bring in some areas of heavy rain over the North Island this weekend and/or Monday.
While Winston wanders towards Brisbane and the Queensland Coast, a cold front will move up the nation this weekend – with settled weather returning to the South Island, but it joins forces with sub-tropical air over the North Island – and that can create heavy downpours.
