Low pressure has been affecting NZ for 11 days now and will continue on this week – but in an entirely new location, centred east of the North Island. This new low pressure centre will rapidly form tonight and into Tuesday bringing windier south to south-east winds for the North Island and driving in rain to northern Hawke’s Bay, Gisborne and East Cape.
Rain and showers may spread as far south as the eastern South Island. The low will take all of this week to finally move away and isn’t expected to do much beyond these regions. Strong winds will also clip Bay of Plenty, especially in the east.
Elsewhere a narrow area of high pressure comes in this week – and by Mataraki we have some high pressure over NZ but also a cold front moving into the West Coast and heading towards the North Island for Saturday.
We have your detailed forecast through to Sunday.
