We have some weekend rain developing in the east of both islands but it’s only a narrow area.
Elsewhere high pressure is expanding with just a few isolated showers.
As we head into next week it’s more of the same – wet weather mainly in the east between Kaikoura and southern Hawke’s Bay and and high pressure growing elsewhere.
There may be a few showers in Northland but nothing too significant.

Really pleased to watch you video today and see that the North islands East Coast is finally getting some rain (in fact it has just started raining heavily here in Matamau as I type this). Our water tanks will top up and the animals might get a bit of grass growth for their Winter feed yet! Takes a bit of the strain off all the other woes that are occurring at the moment. Thanks for the good news.
