VIDEO: NZ/Australia forecast for the remainder of Autumn

> From the WeatherWatch archives

There’s both an uptick in high pressure and low pressure as we enter the final days of Autumn on the meteorological calendar.

For New Zealand and Australia specifically there is certainly more high pressure coming through over the next week or two – but for NZ storms in the Southern Ocean and some low pressure in the Tasman Sea area will bring more downpours to the north and west over the coming 5 days. But after that we may see more high pressure.

Over the Southern Ocean winter is clearly building with big storms developing closer to Antarctica – this deep southern placement often encourages more westerlies for NZ.

Have a great weekend, we’ll see you again on Monday afternoon!

Hey Phil, I just wanted to say a quick thank you. I’ve really struggled after being effected by the recent flooding and have had some pretty bad anxiety around the weather. I only recently found your videos and they have helped me hugely. Thank you for always explaining what’s heading our way. Why it’s happening and making pretty accurate castings. Mostly thank you for not promoting the click bate you currently find everywhere whenever any sign of rain is due. The headlines in a lot of media outlets often induce so much fear and worry for no real reason. I’m always grateful to now know I can come to your site for a well informed weather explanation. Thank you

Hi Sophie, thanks so much for the very kind comment. We hope the media follow suit in learning not to hype rain events, but at the moment they don’t show much interest. Recent Herald stories and interviews by editor Shayne Currie have been promising though. Thanks again for the support 🙂
