VIDEO: March sees tropical activity increase around Australia and New Caledonia

> From the WeatherWatch archives

We have NZ’s weekend forecast but also a look at the tropics right around Australia and north of NZ around New Caledonia and the Coral Sea area where storms are expected in the coming week(s).

High pressure is still dominating NZ but as we head into March expect the tropics to be more active.

At least two tropical cyclones are likely around Australia in the first week.

NZ looks protected with high pressure for now – but a colder southerly is on the cards for later next week as a tropical low deepens in the Coral Sea area.

Hey Duncan,

Any updates on the possible cyclone activity?

When might we know more?

Thanks,

Rose.
