We have another update on the weekend weather pattern and outlook for both Christmas and Boxing Days next week. There is still some uncertainty with the rain clouds and their precise set-up for Christmas Day.
We have NO VIDEO tomorrow Friday but will be back again this Saturday with a special update as we head into Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all at Weather Watch, and I wish you all a great time with your families—and a Happy New Year.
A question I have is why Whangarei is getting so many grey cloudy days, it seems endless. certainly makes one feel depressed as any early sun soon gets covered over.
It has been a great experience looking at WW each day and the learning curve weatherwise carries on growing. Thank you for all your good work.

Thanks heaps Derek, Merry Xmas to you too – and thanks for your support across the year(s).
El Nino often brings in more weather from the Tasman Sea and Southern Ocean areas. This can either blow cloud in to the west of NZ (and Northland is both ‘north’ and ‘west’) or the cooler air collides with sub-tropical air to your north and produces cloud. However at the moment it’s the shape of the high pressure zone dragging in a cloudier sub-tropical flow from the N to NE that is to blame.
Kind regards from Auckland (where it’s also been very cloudy at times this month!)
Phil
