VIDEO: Highly unsettled pattern – Is the Southern Ocean reducing La Nina’s impacts?

> From the WeatherWatch archives

The Southern Ocean is highly unsettled at the moment and is sending up a number of cold fronts and bursts of windy weather in the week or so ahead.

Friday sees a windy southerly spread up the South Island with a calm night following, which may lead to near zero degree temperatures through some inland areas.

However across Saturday a warm nor’wester comes out of Aussie – and by Sunday/Monday – and again Wednesday – more big lows near southern NZ will keep our weather feeling more like mid-spring or mid-autumn.
