A large low will take up most of the Tasman Sea area this week and peaks in strength on Wednesday – out at sea.
It then drifts into northern NZ late this week and falls apart over the weekend.
It will bring several days of showers to the north – and a period of rain. Meanwhile the South Island is under high pressure for the most part, with a drier than average week ahead for many spots.
