Update: Northern rain mainly out at sea

> From the WeatherWatch archives

As we’ve been saying all week there is a very fine line between rain and completely/mostly dry weather this weekend for some northern regions despite a deep low just offshore.

The developing sou’east winds acts like a reverse nor’wester for the north – keeping many western areas (including Auckland) quite cloudy but mostly dry.

While the chance of rain is very high today in some places, we still believe many in the west nearer to the Tasman Sea will have a mostly dry Saturday. This includes Auckland City for now.

This morning Great Barrier Island has had rain but the city of Auckland remains dry.

Rain clouds hug eastern Northland but, for now, also remain offshore.

Gisborne and East Cape are still most exposed to wind and rain today.
