Two Storms this week – so two Maps to make sense of it all

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Two storms moving in two different directions – but their paths cross within 48 hours.

These first two maps explain Storm 1 (today) tracking southwards, and Storm 2 (arriving Wednesday) tracking eastwards.

Storm 1 won’t directly hit NZ – but has brought wind and rain (and today some thunderstorms to the north).

Storm 2 will likely fall apart over the South Island on Wednesday and Thursday, and will take until the end of the working week/start of the long weekend to properly clear off the country.

These deep low pressure zones are well below normal and are helping balance some unusually large high pressure zones so far across 2022.
