A front pushes northwards over the South Island today bringing heavy rain in the west, scattered falls in the east especially later. Northeasterlies for the North Island with showers in the northeast.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy periods and occasional showers, more so in the east, a little drier out west. Breezy east to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 20-22

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A mix of sun and cloud, the odd spit develops for Taranaki in the afternoon, rain there later in the day. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 17-22

Eastern North Island

A mix of sun and cloud. The odd shower north of Mahia Peninsula, overnight a few spits may get into Wairarapa spreading from the west. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 21-22

Wellington

Mostly cloudy, rain develops later in the evening. Breezy northerlies.
Highs: 18-20

Marlborough & Nelson

Thickening high cloud, some scattered rain develops about Nelson by midday then spreads into Marlborough later in the day. Rain overnight may be heavy. Northerly winds.
Highs: 17-19

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy, scattered rain, more so from evening. Light winds.
Highs: 18-20

West Coast

Rain with heavy falls, easing from the south later in the day. Northeasterlies.
Highs: 17-18

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy, spits or showers. Light winds.
Highs: 16-18
