A cold front pushes northwards over the South Island today bringing in a south to southwesterly change and either rain or showers, the North Island is mainly settled with westerlies. Overnight showers move into Wellington and Wairarapa.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning cloud, chance of a light shower about western Waikato then sunny spells increase in the afternoon. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 19-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning cloud, chance of a light shower then sunny spells increase. Breezy westerlies change southerly overnight.
Highs: 15-17

Eastern North Island

Sunny with northwesterly winds, overnight southerlies develop about Wairarapa bringing a few showers.
Highs: 19-24

Wellington

A mix of sun and cloud with breezy northwesterlies, late evening southerlies bring showers.
Highs: 16-17

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny, there may be some high cloud. Northwesterlies change southerly in the evening then expect late or overnight showers for Marlborough.
Highs: 19-21

Canterbury

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, mid to late afternoon southerlies push through bringing showers or perhaps some rain. Rain not reaching the Kaikoura area till evening. Showers clear overnight.
Highs: 18-22

West Coast

Cloudy with showers, rain about South Westland spreads into North Westland in the afternoon. Rain clears in the south from evening then elsewhere overnight as northwesterlies change to the south.
Highs: 12-15

Southland & Otago
Morning rain eases to showers, clearing up in the evening. Sun breaks through at times from afternoon. West to southwesterly winds, gusty about the coast.
Highs: 10-14
