A low to the west of the country sends a series of fronts over mainly the North Island today, a front in the evening has the potential to be thundery. Areas of lightning may remain just offshore however especially out west. Eastern Bay Of Plenty may see some electrical activity overnight. Most of the country sees rain or drizzle patches at some point today, only the far southwestern corner of the South Island remains mainly dry.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato
Mostly cloudy, could be a few infrequent sunny spells. Chance of morning fog about the Waikato and Auckland. Northeasterly breezes with the odd shower mainly in the east. Later in the evening showers become a little more widespread and there could be a heavy fall or two. Risk of thunder mainly near coastal fringes especially out west. Winds tend northwest overnight.

Central North Island & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy with northeasterly breezes, could be a foggy start about inland areas. The odd shower about Bay Of Plenty from morning turning to rain by midday which then eases in the evening. Odd shower spreads into the Central North Island after midday. About Bay Of Plenty later in the night there could be a few heavy coastal showers, even the risk of a thunderstorm mainly in the east about East Cape.

Eastern North Island
Sunny with some high cloud, thickening during the day. Some rain spreads into Gisborne in the evening. Northeasterly breezes.
Highs: 17-18

Wellington & Western North Island
Cloudy periods, the odd sunny spell at times. Chance of the odd shower otherwise mainly dry. Showers do move into northern Taranaki mid to late afternoon however, chance of a heavy evening fall about northern Taranaki with thunder. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-18

Nelson
Drizzle patches turning to rain around midday, east to northeast breezes. Could be a few heavy falls in the afternoon and evening.
High: 15-16

Marlborough
The odd shower or drizzle patch from afternoon with easterly breezes, cloudy and dry to start. Rain later in the evening.
High: 14-15

Canterbury
Fairly cloudy with patchy rain or drizzle, mainly from afternoon. Easterly breezes.
High: 12-13

West Coast
Mostly cloudy with brisk easterlies, areas of rain mainly from afternoon.
High: 16-17

Southland & Otago
Cloudy with easterly breezes, drizzle patches about eastern Otago spreading inland in the evening. Southland remaining mainly dry with cloudy periods.
Highs: 10-13
