A weak ridge lies over the country today bringing generally settled weather however there will be quite a few cloudy areas about, the remains of yesterdays front lie over the lower North Island.

Upper North Island

Mostly sunny with westerly breezes, some cloud at times. Northeast breezes for Gisborne.
HIGHS: 23-26

Lower North Island

Cloudy this morning about western areas with westerly winds, cloudy in Wellington also with southerlies. Chance of a light shower about Kapiti in the morning. Sunny areas developing in the afternoon. Sunny areas at first in Taranaki and southern parts of the Central North Island however becoming cloudy in the afternoon with the chance of a shower then clearing in the evening. Southerlies develop in the morning about Wairarapa bringing cloud, winds tend easterly in the afternoon. Sunny in Hawkes Bay with light winds, afternoon northeast breezes may bring some cloud.

Upper South Island

Mostly cloudy weather with north to northeasterly breezes developing during the morning for Nelson and along the east coast through to Canterbury, northeasterlies a little brisk about the Kaikoura coast through to Canterbury in the afternoon. Cloudy and sunny areas on the West Coast with light southwesterlies.
HIGHS: 19-21

Lower South Island

Mostly sunny inland with some cloud and light winds at first in the morning, northeasterlies develop in the afternoon along the east coast where more cloudier skies can be expected. High cloud then increases for most from midday. Cloudy areas about Southland thicken in the afternoon and showers develop there in the evening with a southwest change.
HIGHS: 18-22

Warmest – East and north of the North Island

Windiest – Westerlies about Southland will become a little gusty this afternoon, expect brisk northeasterlies along the Canterbury coastline too.

Sunniest – Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, also Bay Of Plenty and north of the Waikato.

Wettest – Some rain develops about Fiordland later this evening with an approaching front.
