Mostly cloudy weather expected across the country today with drizzle patches or light showers about, winds will be light. Chance of a thunderstorm late in the day about Otago.

Upper North Island

Cloudy with light northwesterlies, a few showers then a period of rain in the afternoon. High cloud in Gisborne with dry weather mostly.
HIGHS: 22-24, 27 in Gisborne

Lower North Island

Mostly cloudy with light northwesterlies, a few showers here and there in the west. A few showers mid afternoon may become heavy in inland areas then easing later in the evening. High cloud on the east coast with light winds, showers spread from the west late afternoon clearing in the evening.
HIGHS: 19-21, 26-27 on the east coast.

Upper South Island

Mostly cloudy skies with light winds tending southeast on the east coast and northerly or northwest on the West Coast. A few drizzle patches about but dry spells too. In inland parts of Marlborough and Nelson a few showers could be heavy mid afternoon then easing later in the evening.
HIGHS: 18-20 on the West Coast, 21 in Nelson. 16-18 in Canterbury and Marlborough.

Lower South Island

Any morning showers clear then sunny areas slowly increase with light winds tending easterly on the east coast. Later in the evening or around midnight a period of showers moves over eastern Otago which could be heavy and thundery then clearing.
HIGHS: 17-18, low 20’s inland.
