Fairly anticyclonic today however a weak area of low pressure sits just to the east.

North Island

A mix of sun and cloud for the western North Island today, morning fog possible for inland Waikato. Chance of a morning light shower about western Waikato southwards. Later in the afternoon or evening there is the risk of an isolated shower or two otherwise staying mainly dry. Light winds tend west to southwest by midday, afternoon northerlies for Bay Of Plenty. Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells for the lower western North Island, isolated showers possible about the Central North Island late afternoon or evening. The east coast has a mainly sunny day with light winds and afternoon sea breezes, some evening cloud moves in from the west.

South Island

Showers for the West Coast ease, long dry areas developing by afternoon with some sun even possibly breaking through. High cloud in the east. Cloudy areas and occasional sun about Southland and Otago, mainly dry but there could be an early coastal shower for Southland then a late afternoon isolated shower for Central Otago. Winds are mostly light for the South Island tending onshore in the afternoon.

Temperatures

Highs in the mid to late twenties for most of the North Island, reaching into the low thirties about some inland areas and mainly along the east coast. Coastal parts of the lower western North Island stay in the low twenties. Highs in the mid to late twenties for most of the South Island, some parts of coastal Otago and South Westland don’t get out of the high teens however. The Nelson region may crack 30 degrees this afternoon.
