Upper North Island

Expect light south to southeasterly breezes, sunny areas and some cloud this morning. Chance of the odd shower too especially in the east from Auckland along the coast through to East Cape. Some rain develops this morning about the far north also. This afternoon expect showers to become widespread with heavy thundery falls in some areas, hail also possible. Expect winds to tend predominantly southwesterly in the west late afternoon. Showers ease at night but may remain heavy about the Waikato southwards into the Bay Of Plenty. Rain in Gisborne for most of the day with southeasterly winds, rain eases later in the evening.
HIGHS: 17-18 for most today, Gisborne around 14-15.

Lower North Island

Sunny areas and some cloud this morning with south to southeasterly breezes in the west, isolated showers develop this afternoon about the Central North Island and northern Taranaki in particular. Showers about the Central North Island may become heavy and thundery in the afternoon then easing later in the evening. Mostly cloudy about Wellington and Wairarapa with cool southerlies, showers ease this morning becoming few and far between. Rain in Hawkes Bay with southerlies.
HIGHS: Temperatures in the mid teens, 13-14 about Wellington and Wairarapa.

Upper South Island

Sunny this morning about Nelson and North Westland with light winds, some cloud about Buller. Isolated showers develop about the ranges of most areas late afternoon possibly becoming heavy and thundery then easing at night. in Marlborough expect showers about eastern coastal areas with south to southeasterly winds, showers clear in the afternoon with winds easing. Conditions will be sunnier in inland areas and a few isolated showers may get going late afternoon about hills and ranges then clearing at night. East to northeasterly winds developing about Canterbury this morning, a few showers about North Canterbury clear this morning, sunny areas elsewhere from morning.
HIGHS: 16-17 about Nelson and on the West Coast, 13-14 about Canterbury and Marlborough.

Lower South Island

Mostly sunny in all regions in the lower South Island with a little wispy high cloud possible, winds will be light to start this morning and for most of the day in inland areas. Northeasterly winds pick up a little along the east coast in the afternoon and winds tend westerly on the West Coast. A few clouds bubble up late in the afternoon about some inland hills and ranges leading to a shower or two possibly heavy and thundery in Central Otago which clear at night.
HIGHS: 21-22 about Southland and Central Otago, 16-17 on the West Coast south of the Glaciers. 14-15 about Coastal Otago.
