A ridge of high pressure spreads onto the South Island today, southerlies further north.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny for most, some morning cloud with the risk of a shower about western Northland then clearing away. Southerly winds.
Highs: 16-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny spells in the east towards the ranges, risk of a shower or two otherwise mainly dry. In the west nearer the coast expect mostly sunny weather. South to southeasterly winds die out later in the day.
Highs: 10-16

Eastern North Island
Cloudy areas with the odd shower throughout the day, fresh south to southwesterly winds ease later in the evening.
Highs: 14-16

Wellington
Cloudy areas, risk of a shower or two. Gusty southerlies ease in the evening.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny with southerly winds, winds may tend onshore for a time in the afternoon.
Highs: 15-16

Canterbury
Mostly sunny, morning showers out on Banks Peninsula clear away. Southwesterly winds tend northeast in the afternoon.
High: 14

West Coast
Sunny with southeasterlies dying out during the morning, a few showers push into southern Fiordland during the day with westerlies.
Highs: 14-16

Southland & Otago
Cloudy areas for Southland, a few morning showers then sun a little more frequent from afternoon as northwesterly winds tend westerly. Otago is mostly sunny with northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-16
